There is a need for higher automated firmware/software/config updates. Customers with a high volume of devices (e.g. 40.000) do not want to click thorugh the UI until everey device is updated. They would prefer to trigger a process, which would manage the update process more automatically. For instance:
User selects a (smart) group containing all devices, which have to be updated (already in place)
User selects appropriate firmware binary and maybe set a time schedule (already in place)
Platform starts running through the schedule (also in parallel mode)
Devices, which are not reachable are skipped and queued again to give them a second or third try later
After finishing the process there is a report showing the sucess rate and providing tools to troubleshoot the failed ones (e.g. manual updates, reboot &update, etc)
Hi Marco, we are currently planning an improved bulk operation process with focus on firmware and software updates. We already have a draft specification with some mockups. I just attached them to the linked feature. Feedback is appreciated!
