Today, the only function of the Maintenance toggle switch in Device Management is to suppress the generation of c8y_UnavailabilityAlarms when a device fails to communicate for the 'Required interval'.
But there are also additional use-cases for marking a device as in Maintenance.
Several of our devices include a key-switch or other local switch which is used to disable aspects of the machine and render it safe to maintain. Correct use of this "Maintenance mode" forms part of our service procedures, and it can be helpful to track the duration of a maintenance event by looking at when this switch was actuated. If the equipment doesn't provide such a switch, then an engineer may (probably should) flip the Maintenance toggle switch in Cumulocity.
We would like an Event or an Alarm to be generated automatically when the Maintenance status is changed in Cumulocity - whether this status is changed in the Device Management app, or whether the equipment updates its own status based on a local switch. We would use this information as part of our availability reporting for our service organisation and our customers.
Hi Neil, thank you very much for raising this point. I will take it to one of our next meetings and bring it up there.
