In Device Management, and in Cockpit, it's possible to "drill down" to examine child devices, by clicking on the "Child device" link, and selecting a child device from a list.
However, once you have selected a child device, there is no visual way (other than the <-back button on the browser) to return to its parent, grandparent, or a higher level.
We propose that a breadcrumb trail be created when navigating to a child device - both in Device Management and in Cockpit. This breadcrumb trail could be displayed immediately below the title bar showing the device name, but above any banner showing available dashboards (e.g. in the Cockpit)
Using the "<-back" button to retrace steps through the device hierarchy is clumsy becuase it may take several clicks to return to the point where you originally chose to navigate to the child. A breadcrumb trail would make this a single click operation.
Hi Neil, I was talking to a PM colleague last week who is already working on the subject. Unfortunately, he and his team have encountered some hurdles / performance-related limitations that they need to solve first. That's why we won't be able to solve the problem in the near future, but as I said, we are working on it and I will keep you updated in this comment section.
