As a manufacturing company, we have PLCs with large set of variables all corresponding to a single machine. Creating devices with a large set of measurements/events/alarms is thus more than common.
At the moment, the GUI of OPC UA is ok for adding some variables, but not for 100s or 1000s.
With most dedicated gateways, there import possibilities or other ways of making this process relatively easy.
At the moment the GUI or the existing API is not really scalable and not useable for most of our use cases, which is too bad because if we would put a gateway in between, we would loose the Device Management features of C8y.
Hi Nathan, sorry that it took me so long to get back to you. In the meantime I had several discussions to find the best solution for you as we won’t be able to address this topic in the near future with a productized feature. However, colleagues from professional services addressed this problem by creating a microservice to automate OPC UA protocol creation and the code is publicly available: https://github.com/SoftwareAG/opcua_deviceprotocol I hope this is helping you.
