Remote Access over HTTP to Device UI with Configuration

Some devices have a Configuration tool on the device side which could be accessed over cumulocity with the remote access Microservice. Remote Access does not support http (443) connect. Some of the device configuration are device specific and are not configurable from cumulocity with the standard tools. With a remote access it would be possible to configure the device with the tooling on the device side. For the Edge this Access Metohod would be also advantageous.

    Hi Artur,

we have recently created this functionality as a community plugin:

    https://github.com/SoftwareAG/cumulocity-remote-access-cloud-http-proxy/

It would be great if you could give it a try!

    Regards,

    Nikolaus

    Hi Nikolaus,

we are device manufacturer and we cannot predict all the use cases. But I can imagine, that it could be used for service-engineers.

I only metioned tablets, because they are usually not in the field network.

But I think it would be an added value if the Webvisualisation of our PLCs could be access direktly from the Browser without additional software.
Using the c8ylp is too difficult for most customers (PLC programmers), because they do not work with the console.

Hi Artur, many thanks for the feedback! I find it interesting, that you are proposing usage on Tablet or Smartphone. what is the use-case you see? Would it be an on-site troubleshooting by a field service engineer who does troubleshooting in front of the equipment or do you also see the use of Tablets and Smartphone's in remote troubleshooting use-cases?

I'd like to have the same feature. We have devices with a Webvisualisation (HMI exposed via HTTP). It would be an added value if we could access this Webvisualisation from everywere direktly in the browser e.g. with Tablet or Smartphone.

Thank you for the feedback. Some time back we were looking at the option to remotely open UIs from IoT gateways or any server connected to the IoT gateway from within our platform UI. Unfortunately, it turned to be out not to be easily possible due to common security mechanisms used to avoid man in the middle attacks.

What you can do is use our cloud remote access feature to open a tunnel to a client. You will need to install our local proxy application locally for this to work and can find more information here: https://tech.forums.softwareag.com/t/remote-connect-to-your-devices/239639
